Games Begin January 16 & 17, 2021!

Nov. 18, 2020

The Metro Basketball Association held a board meeting on the evening of November 9th, in an effort to solidify our dates of play for this upcoming season. The anticipated start date for league games is January 16 & 17, 2021

This season will no doubt look a little different than the past number of seasons. With the late start the regular season will be cut from 12 games to 10 games and have a three week play-off period (instead of play-off tournaments). The league fees will remain the same as the past number of years at $1495* (the increased fee of $1695) will come into affect when the league returns to normal, hopefully in October 2021. For this season to be pulled off successfully there will be a number of rule changes, policies and procedures put in place, these will require everyone to work together to ensure these are taken care of. While some of these may not be ideal, we need to ensure we provide a safe environment for the players, coach’s and officials to play in. Failure to abide by these policies and procedures will put the season at risk of being stopped.

MBA Rule Changes

  1. Limits to a team’s roster size.
    1. Teams will be able to have a maximum of 15 players
    2. Teams will be able to have a maximum of 4 coaches
    3. Teams MUST have a minimum of two coaches
  2. The rule limiting the number of shifts a player can play in has been removed for U10 & U12 (i.e. a player can play in more then 5 shifts)
    1. The rule stating that there must not be more then a one shift differential between any player on the team is still in effect
  3. There will be no jump-ball to begin the game. There will be a coin toss prior to the start of the game, done by the referee and a coach from each team
  4. There will be no post game hand shakes

Policy’s and Procedures

  1. Spectators will not be permitted. Games will not start is there are spectators in the gym.*
  2. Clubs must provide phone number or e-mail address (ideally both) for all players and coaches with their registration data submitted to the league.
  3. There will be other policies and procedures which are currently being finalized and reviewed to ensure we are meeting the guidelines set out by public health and Back to Basketball plan put out by Basketball Nova Scotia.

* We fully understand that this is not ideal and that parents want to be able to watch their kids participate. Unfortunately given the current public health restrictions and in the interest of doing our part to keep participants safe this will be a requirement for all league games.

We look forward to seeing everyone on the court on January 16th and 17th!
